The Societat Catalana d’Hist\u00f2ria de la Ci\u00e8ncia i de la T\u00e8cnica<\/a> (SCHCT), a subsidiary of the Institut d’Estudis Catalans, has chosen the city of Olot as the venue for the 18th Trobada d’Hist\u00f2ria de la Ci\u00e8ncia i la T\u00e8cnica<\/a>. This scientific meeting, held every two years, aims to host the research work and activities carried out by SCHCT members, as well as the work of other researchers who wish to participate. The event is coordinated by Espai Cr\u00e0ter<\/a>, the Observatory of Humanities in Medicine, Turisme Garrotxa <\/a>and the Department of Culture and Education of Olot City Counci<\/a>l.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From 21 to 23 November,<\/strong> the city of Olot will be a meeting point for experts from a wide range of disciplines related to science and technology from all over Catalonia, Valencia, and the Balearic Islands. To weave a common space between science, territory, and society, the organizing committee intends to link the meeting to the city through technical conferences, which will take place at the Espai Cr\u00e0ter, and various complementary social and cultural activities, including a visit to Can Bol\u00f3s and the Bol\u00f3s collection restoration space at the Museu dels Sants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cabinet of curiosities at Can Bol\u00f3s and other social and cultural activities will be key to the meeting<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Garrotxa region, as well as being located in a natural environment that is stimulating for researchers, also has a cabinet of curiosities that is unique in Europe: the Cabinet of Curiosities of Francesc Xavier de Bol\u00f3s. Those taking part in the 18th Trobada will be able to visit the room where de Bol\u00f3s had his exceptional collection – of fossils, minerals, stuffed animals, and all kinds of documentation – which the family has kept since the mid-19th century, and the pieces that are currently being restored at the Museu dels Sants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, the organizing committee is still working to ensure that the event is linked to the city’s social and cultural activities, which will be announced together with the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Faberllull residency program, dialogue with the meeting<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 18th SCHCT Trobada will also be linked to a residency dedicated to earth sciences that will take place in Faberllull from 19 November to 1 December 2024. Researchers in the history and philosophy of science will come from Italy, Belgium, the United States, Catalonia and Spain to generate a space for reflection and research on the relationship between science, territory and society based on the historical study of the development of science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Call for papers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Societat Catalana d’Hist\u00f2ria de la Ci\u00e8ncia i de la T\u00e8cnica has already opened the call for papers<\/strong> and thematic sessions that will be evaluated by the scientific committee of the Meeting. The deadline for submissions is 10 June<\/strong> for the thematic sessions and 20 June<\/strong> for the communications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
