The event will take place on November 30 and will commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the scientist’s birth
The Cràter Space is organizing a memorial to celebrate the centenary of the birth of the Olotian scientist Oriol de Bolòs, professor of phytography and plant ecology at the University of Barcelona, technical curator and director of the Institut Botànic de Barcelona (1977-1983), member of the management committee of the Institut d’Estudis Catalans in the Science section and then Biological Sciences and personality linked to the Catalan Institute of Natural History. The Memorial Oriol de Bolòs. 100 anys del seu naixement highlights both his contributions in the field of natural sciences and his relationship with the city of Olot and the region of La Garrotxa.
The event is the result of the institutional coordination between Espai Cràter and the Parc Natural de la Zona Volcànica de la Garrotxa, Centre de Documentació de la Biodiversitat Vegetal del CRAI de la Universitat de Barcelona, Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, Ateneu de la Universitat de Barcelona, l’Institut Botànic de Barcelona, Institució Catalana d’Història Natural, Societat Catalana d’Història de la Ciència i de la Tècnica, Institut d’Estudis Catalans, Patronat d’Estudis Històrics d’Olot i Comarca and the ‘Observatori d’Humanitats en Medicina’.
It will begin at ten in the morning with a tribute dance, a traditional Catalan song by the musical group La Trapassera and words of welcome from Josep Berga, the mayor of Olot, and Xevi Collell, director of the Espai Cràter. Next, Dr. Jordi de Bolòs, son of Oriol de Bolòs, will talk about the scientist’s relationship with botany and the country. Dr. Miquel Àngel Fumanal, president of the Board of Historical Studies of Olot and Comarca, will delve into the role of de Bolòs in the city of Olot. Finally, Dr. Josep Maria Ninot will moderate the round table “Contribution of Dr. Oriol de Bolòs in botany”, in which Dr. Jordina Belmonte, Dr. Xavier Lemon, Dr. Joan Vallès, Dr. Neus Ibáñez and Dr. Joseph Maria Mallarach. The event will close with the music of La Trapassera.
