Cait is a nine-year-old, reserved girl who is neglected by her poor, dysfunctional and too numerous family. She is silently confronted with difficulties at school and at home, and has learned to go unnoticed by those around her. When summer arrives and the date of her mother’s birth approaches, Cait is sent to live with distant relatives. Without knowing when he will return home, he stays at the house of strangers with no more belongings than the clothes he wears. Little by little, and thanks to the care of the Kinsella family, Cait makes remarkable progress and discovers a new way of life. But in this house where affection reigns and there seem to be no secrets, she discovers a painful truth.
