Accessibility

At Espai Cràter, we work to guarantee accessibility for everyone. The accounting centre has access and routes suitable for people with reduced mobility, rest areas, and adapted toilets.

People with a disability card have free access to the free visit, as well as their companion, in case they need support. Groups participating in the Apropa Cultura programme and organisations or groups of people at risk of social exclusion also have free admission.

We offer adapted guided tours so that the contents are accessible to everyone and, above all, to people with physical, sensory, and cognitive disabilities. We also have free digital audio guides and every Friday afternoon we offer a ‘quiet afternoon’ with a sensorially adapted environment for people with autism, hypersensitivity, cognitive diversity, or who want a more leisurely visit.

Mobilitat dins de l'Espai Cràter

Physical accessibility

The Espai Cràter is a semi-buried building with two floors. It can be accessed from Carrer Macarnau (access by ramp), or Carrer Roser, next to the bullring (access by lift or stairs).

The centre has two floors. On the ground floor, there are several spaces:

  • Hall: entrance space, with double doors. Accessible from Carrer del Roser and Carrer Macarnau. It is the centre for information and distribution of the centre’s activities.
  • La Cambra: this is the room that houses the permanent exhibition on volcanology. It is accessed from the lobby, through a first room where an introductory audiovisual is projected.
  • Sala Magma: this is an auditorium format room. It has a stage, 110 fixed seats, a control booth, and a dressing room. It is accessed from the foyer. It hosts its own activities and those of other entities.
  • Aula Bufador: this is a multi-purpose space where educational activities and family workshops, among others, are held. It is accessed from the foyer.

In the attic, we can find:

Pets

Pets are not allowed inside the exhibition, except for assistance dogs.

Wheelchair loan

A wheelchair loan service is available free of charge. It can be requested at reception.

Accessible toilets

The toilets of the Espai Cràter are located on the ground floor, near the reception. They are accessible to people with reduced mobility and do not distinguish between genders.

Circulation inside the building

The lift is located next to the reception and connects the two floors of the Espai Cràter with the urban park, located above the building. To access from the outside, it is necessary to ring the bell. All floors are also connected by stairs.

Resting places

There are eight rest areas along the route of the permanent exhibition. They are in the main foyer, in the introductory video, and in the exhibition hall.

Baby changing tables

We have a baby changing table. It is located in the toilets on the ground floor.

Característiques ambientals

Lighting

The exhibition room is artificially lit. They are dark areas, without much contrast. If necessary, support can be requested from the centre’s staff.

Noise

On busy days, ambient noise in the foyer and exhibition hall can be loud.

Serveis

Point of attention to the public

The reception is located to the left of the door, for access from Carrer Macarnau, and to the right, for access from Carrer del Roser.

The reception has a double-height counter. There is no routing surface. The staff is uniformed, with a black and white waistcoat.

Reading point

In the hall, there is a reading point with local magazines related to the Espai Cràter.

Wifi

The Espai Cràter has free internet access for all visitors. To access it, you need to scan the QR code that you can find at reception.

Activity corner

In the lobby there is a family corner designed as a relaxed space for children to experiment freely.

There is a cabinet with stories, magazines, books, and games selected by the Documentation Centre of the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park. There is also a table with blank sheets of paper, volcanic drawings to colour, and felt-tip pens.

Lockers

Next to the reception, there is a locker service that can be activated with a one-euro coin. There are also hangers for coats and jackets.

Guided tours

Every weekend, there are guided tours of the exhibition in Catalan. You can consult the timetables in the Programmation section. For specific bookings, please contact the User Services Department at sau.crater@olot.cat and/or telephone 972 27 91 32. We adapt the guided tours so that the content is accessible to everyone, especially to people with physical, sensory, or cognitive disabilities.

Upon request and availability, we can offer guided tours in sign language. If you have any other needs, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Audioguies

Espai Cràter has a digital audio guide, an application that makes the visit to the exhibition more accessible and personalised. It can be accessed free of charge with a mobile phone for all visitors to the exhibition.

It is available in four languages (Catalan, Spanish, English, and French), and to enjoy it, you don’t need to download an app, but you can scan a QR code using your mobile device.

The audio guide contains information about the different areas of the exhibition and helps to better understand the main concepts of volcanism and human geography. It consists of eleven audio tracks, transcriptions of the audiovisuals shown in the room, and images that help the user to follow the visit.

The quiet afternoon

This initiative aims to ensure the well-being and inclusion of all people, especially those with autism, hypersensitivity, or cognitive diversity.

During these afternoons, specific environmental adaptations will be made: the intensity of the lighting and sound will be lowered, the seating capacity will be reduced, and quiet spaces will be provided to offer a more relaxed and safer experience.

Every Friday

  • from 16 to 20h in summer (from 1 July to 15 Septembre)
  • from 15 to 18h in winter (from 16 Septembre to 30 June)

Objects accessible to the touch

There are some materials in the exhibition that can be touched: volcanic rocks, models and materials used by volcanologists.
